APS Technology: Get to know the products

FGM’s unique technology consists of a combination of different photoinitiators that interact with each other and amplify the polymerization capacity of light emitted by the light-curing devices.

One of these photoinitiators remains the camphorquinone (in very low concentration), used only to initiate a chain reaction with free radical multiplication as sequential propagation occurs.

That way, camphorquinone was added just as a “trigger”, because, since it is sensitized by the light length emitted by all the light-curing devices available in the market, professionals can use all the benefits of the APS even when using their conventional light-curing equipment, without having to invest in specific equipment.

Esthetics Uncompromised by Camphorquinone

One of the major concerns of dental professionals and patients is the tendency for the camphorquinone in bonding material to compromise the esthetic of the restoration. Camphorquinone is used in some materials to increase the rate of curing, but it turns a pale yellow color in the process, compromising the aesthetic. When considering dental bonding as a cosmetic treatment, the patient expects a successful outcome with a flawless smile. Our products use minimal amounts of camphorquinone, the effects of which are offset by the advanced composite formulation. Expect excellent handling and performance from products with lower camphorquinone quantity, and predictable shades before and after curing.

Curing depth
One of the important qualities of APS is that it provides better conversion of monomers to polymers even at great depths. This property is of great importance for all photoactivated composites but especially for Opus Bulk Fill APS and Opus Bulk Fill Flow APS, which are inserted in large increments, ensuring clinical longevity for restorations.

Longer Working Time with Controlled Photopolymerization
The advantages of slowly controlled photopolymerization are significant for dental professionals. With more time to work incrementally on the restoration, it’s possible to perform more accurate and more aesthetic work with the photopolymerization performance of FGM Dental Group Products. A better patient outcome with improved satisfaction is possible. Chairside workflow is improved thanks to carefully controlled photopolymerization, allowing for more efficient procedures at a lower cost.

The controlled photopolymerization doesn’t compromise the strength of the restoration. It simply allows for efficient and unrushed procedures as ambient light has little impact on the composite material.

Mechanical properties
As the polymerization depth is increased due to the higher conversion degree of monomers to polymers, consequently there is a better polymerization of the whole chain. This generates a significant increase in all mechanical properties such as flexural strength and resistance to fracture.
